How Much Do Breast Implants Cost?

breast implants costs kansas city ksOne of the major concerns of women considering getting breast augmentation is the actual cost of the surgery. Where Are Incisions Made For Breast Augmentation?

Many women would like to have larger breasts to improve their body contours and feel more confident. Breast augmentation surgery is a safe and effective way to get enhanced body contours immediately, but many women worry about the surgery. One of the main concerns are the breast augmentation incisions.

Where does the plastic surgeon cut? Will there be scars? Will it be obvious? are questions that Dr. Rast fields quite often in our Kansas City plastic surgery center. The incision can made in the armpit (transaxillary), under the breast (inframammary), or in the nipple (periareolar), depending on patient preference, implant size, and Dr. Rast’s recommendation.

Inframammary Breast Augmentation Incision

The incision that is made under the fold of the breast is called an inframammary incision. This is the most common type of breast augmentation incision. Lots of women prefer this type because the scar is easily hidden in the fold of the breast, or by a bra or bikini. Plastic surgeons use this type of incision because they can easily control bleeding and precision, due to the incision being so close to the breast. Another benefit of the inframammary incision is that there is no risk to damaging the nerves of the nipple.

Periareolar Breast Augmentation Incision

The periareolar incision is when the plastic surgeon cuts along the outer edge of the areola of the nipple. Periareolar incisions are typically very easily hidden because of the darker color of the areola. With proper healing, this type of incision can be virtually invisible. Like the inframammary incision, because this incision is so close to where the implant will be placed, plastic surgeons can easily control bleeding and have incredible precision with placing the implant.

Transaxillary Breast Augmentation Incision

For an incision hidden inside the folds of the armpit, the transaxillary method is available. Dr. Rast makes a small incision in the armpit, then a tunnel to the breast is created which the implant is sent through. Typically, saline implants are used since those can be inserted unfilled, then filled once they are in place. This keeps the incision and scar very small and far away from the breasts, leaving the breast looking untouched. This method is also a great option for women who would like to breastfeed in the future, as there is less risk of damage to the mammary glands. There is a small risk of nerve damage and excess bleeding since the incision point is much further away from the breast.

How Plastic Surgery Affects Future Pregnancy

pregnancy & plastic surgery kansas cityMany female patients we see at our Kansas City plastic surgery clinic are concerned with how cosmetic surgery of their body could potential harm or affect a potential pregnancy somewhere in their future. Past plastic surgery procedures will not hurt your chances of becoming pregnant or harm your child while you are pregnant.

As many women know, pregnancy causes bodies to change in major ways. These changes will affect the results of a plastic surgery procedure.

Tummy Tuck & Pregnancy

Tummy tuck surgery, also known as abdominoplasty, is a procedure performed to remove excess tissue and fat from the abdomen and tighten the muscles of the abdominal wall. While tummy tucks are usually a better option post-baby, there should be no issue with getting pregnant afterwards.

During pregnancy, the abdominal region carries most of the burden. Muscles and skin stretch, new fat pockets are formed, and many other chances are seen. A person with a tummy tuck will see the same changes to their body, and a touch up may be necessary post-birth.

Breast Implants & Breast Feeding

Many women are concerned that they will not be able to breast feed if they’ve had breast implants. There is some risk of complication, but it is important to talk to Dr. Rast about your concerns so that he can devise an augmentation plan. By avoiding disruption of the milk ducts during surgery, it increases the likelihood of breast feeding post-implants.

Pregnancy also causes changes in the breasts. Breast implants will not cause harm to the pregnancy or mother, but the shape of the breasts may change. Be sure to talk with Dr. Rast about your concerns with pregnancy and breast feeding.

Other Cosmetic Procedures

While tummy tucks and breast implants are usually the main cause of concern for women when it comes to pregnancy, pregnancy can cause changes to other types of cosmetic procedures. If you’re considering any type of plastic surgery and planning to get pregnant in the future, be sure to talk with Dr. Rast about your concerns so that he can create the best option for you.
