Can Otoplasty Help Me become More Confident?

Many people are uncomfortable with the size or shape of their ears, and it can make them feel self-conscious. Otoplasty, plastic surgery of the ears, can help you feel better about your profile, increasing confidence.

Otoplasty

Typically people come to Dr. Rast seeking Otoplasty because they would like to reshape their
ears, improve the contours, reposition the ears or improve the proportions between the ears and face. Whether the cause is genetics, disease or injury, misshapen ears can be a source of self-consciousness. Otoplasty can make the patient feel more confident and attractive, improving their self-esteem significantly.

What is Otoplasty

Otoplasty uses the natural structures of the ear to reshape the overall ear, creating a more pleasing appearance. It can correct overly large ears, a condition called macrotia, or reduce the protrusion of ears. Often, children are brought to Dr. Rast for the surgery. Those who are five years old or above may be candidates, depending upon medical history, general health and a strong understanding of the surgery and its goals. Generally, it’s best to wait until a child is old enough to request the procedure before moving forward.

Should I get Otoplasty

Healthy individuals who are non-smokers, and who wish to have their appearance improved through improvements of the size, placement, proportions or shape of the ears, may be good candidates. Children should be at least five years of age when the ear cartilage is stable enough for correction. Understanding and consent are important for young children whose parents are considering the surgery to save them future ridicule. Adult patients should consider their personal goals and the potential outcomes of the procedure. Dr. Rast offers a full, open, and honest consultation to help you decide if otoplasty is right for you or your loved one.

has been overwhelmingly positive. Most patients find that the positive outcomes of their surgery far outweigh any scarring left behind. They are happier with their newly-shaped breasts and relieved at the change. Incisions are hidden as much as possible in the crease underneath the breast and toward the edge of the areola whenever possible. There may be vertical scarring from the crease of the breast to the lower part of the areola. The scars will continue to fade over the upcoming year. Since every patient is unique, Dr. Rast will discuss the placement of your incisions before surgery so you know what to expect.
