Why Some Women Experience Breast Pain
Many women will experience breast pain throughout their lifetime, it is normal, although it is not something that should be ignored. While some may automatically assume that something is severely wrong – others may let things slide; this stems from the lack of proper knowledge about what could be happening.
During menstrual cycles, it is very common for women to experience some breast pain and tenderness.
This is caused by hormonal levels being unbalanced. Unbalanced hormones generally occur when women are pre-menstrual, premenopausal, during pregnancy and with PMS. When the breast pain is not cyclical – other issues that are not hormonal could cause it. The medical terminology for breast pain is mastalgia, which covers but is not limited to the following:
Typical Breast Pain Symptoms
These symptoms are the cyclical symptoms. Since all women are different and handle pain differently, they may not experience all of the symptoms listed or perhaps they do. It is not uncommon for some women to experience pain in one breast and not the other.
In regards to non-cyclical symptoms, possible reasons could be but are not limited to:
- Breast Cysts/Trauma
- Breast Size
- Cholesterol or medications
- Alcohol Intake
Common Breast Pain Causes
The most common cause for breast pain is in fact hormonal imbalances and many women between the ages of 25-50 experience it regularly. It is imperative to understand that this is usually estrogen levels being thrown off rather than a sign for cancer. These types of pain are easily treatable and it may be as simple as getting a little more exercise and implementing breathing techniques into your daily routine. Water level intake is important just for optimal health reasons and it will help regulate salt level intake as well within the body. If for some reason you are experiencing persistent, non-cyclical breast pain, it is safer to visit with your physician and discuss what the root cause could be.
