Hand plastic surgery is a very specialized type of surgery used to fight signs of aging and help rebuild the structure of the hands after disease or fracture. Apart from fighting wrinkles, hand plastic surgery is also used to rebuild and treat diseases to help pain or increase flexibility, strength or hand functioning. Dr. Rast performs this highly specialized surgery with the intent of restoring normal function of fingers and hands with limited pain and faster recovery times for the complete comfort of his Kansas City patients.
Specific Hand Surgery Causes
Carpal Tunnel – Carpel Tunnel Syndrome is a disease caused by overuse and repetitive motion of the hand and wrist (like typing), arthritis, wrist injury, or other injuries. These repetitive motions put pressure on the wrist’s median nerve eventually causing numbness, pain, tingling, aching, or general loss of strength in the hands and fingers. Hand surgery relieves the pressure on the median nerve, bringing back full range of motion and strength to the hand.
Ganglion Cyst – Ganglion cysts (or fluid-filled cysts typically found on the back of the wrist), are usually benign, but in the event that they cause pain and irritation, Dr. Rast can remove these cysts quickly and easier for patients to regain motion and relieve pain.
Tendon Surgery – If the tendons in the hand/wrist have been damaged, pulled, or injured in some way, motion and strength in the hand can be seriously inhibited. In order to speed up recovery — the tendons may require surgery. Dr. Rast can provide a full consultation to see if you should consider tendon surgery.
Fractures – after a wrist fracture, or break in the any of the many bones of the hand, healing may require additional surgery to set or place those small bones.
