About Saline Breast Implants
If you have decided to go through with a breast augmentation surgery, for whatever the reasoning, you will be faced with the decision on whether to choose saline breast implants or silicone. There are numerous reasons in which people decide to undergo the surgical procedure, this may be for health reasons and/or cosmetic purposes.
Saline Breast Implants vs. Silicone Breast Implants
The thing about saline breast implants is that they are made from saline (salt water) that is contained within a shell that is made from silicone. Silicone breast implants are silicone shells that are filled with silicone in a gel form. Many women have chosen silicone implants in the past because they think they feel and look more real.
As with any surgical procedure, there are risks associated with silicone implants, because there is a possibility of the silicone leaking inside of the body which can cause a great deal of damage. Silicone can cause many different types of reactions within the body depending on how large the leak and how much silicone has gotten into the body. Saline breast implants – if they do somehow burst, the saline will go into the body and the casing will be naturally absorbed and expelled therefore minimizing the risks by a large amount in comparison.
Back in 1992 the FDA actually halted silicone breasts implant sales surrounding the leakage concerns, and only until 2006, some have been able to be re-released for use.
Saline breast implants will provide a more ‘natural’ looking shape with a firm feel, that may be exactly what women are looking for. It does come down to personal choice but it is advised to go over all information with your surgeon prior to making any decisions. There are different types available on the market today which may be a consideration, but for safety reasons – saline breast implants are the safest implants to date.
