Look Your Best for the New Year

There are many ways in which you can look your best for the new year. Exercise, meditation, proper diet, and much more can all do wonders, but sometimes we need to do a little more to get the body of our dreams. Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Jon E. Rast understands this and is here to provide you with a variety of surgeries and procedures to help you get your body to the place you’ve always wanted.

Whether you need a breast lift, face lift, liposuction, or something else, Dr. Rast is here for you.

How About a Breast Lift?

Dr. Rast offers a number of breast surgeries, but one of the most popular is a breast lift, or “mastopexy” as it is called in the medical world. Breast lifts do exactly what the name suggests. By lifting the breasts, the surgery helps to reduce sagginess caused by age, pregnancy, breastfeeding, and many other life events.

To accomplish this, Dr. Rast removes excess skin and tissue surrounding the breasts. As part of the procedure, the tissue is tightened in order to reshape and lift the breasts. After a short healing process, the breasts will have developed a new contour in order to increase overall firmness while adding a youthful appearance to the chest.

Maybe a Different Type of Lift

Often, it’s not the breasts which are the most problematic part of the body. As we age, the face can also succumb to sagginess, wrinkles, crow’s feet, and much worse. Other things like smoking, drinking alcohol, using other drugs, and poor diet as well as overexposure to the sun or other forms of UV lighting, such as that found in tanning beds, and air pollution can also wreak havoc on the skin and tissue of the face.

The cause of a saggy or wrinkled face, however, is less important than the fact that sagginess and wrinkles have appeared at all. Most important for most of Dr. Rast’s patients aren’t diagnosing the cause but fixing the problem. And, fortunately, a facelift can help with that.

A facelift, or “rhytidectomy, is accomplished by making small incisions beginning at the temples. The incisions continue around the ears and typically end at the lower scalp. Doing this allows the skin and tissue of the face to be lifted so that wrinkles and sagginess can be metaphorically wiped away. Sometimes, these procedures also incorporate a neck lift which involves making incisions in the chin area.

Lose Weight with Liposuction

Perhaps the problem isn’t sagginess or wrinkles at all. Sometimes, all we need is to lose a little weight. Liposuction is one procedure offered by Dr. Rast to help with this.

While exercise and diet can do wonders for the body, it is often not enough. This is especially true if you’ve inherited genetic conditions which increase the buildup of localized fat deposits throughout the body.

Liposuction requires making incisions in the body where the fat is to be removed. This can be on the neck, stomach, back, legs, thighs, or just about anywhere else. After the incisions are made, a small tube is inserted into the body. It circulates at a high speed which causes the breakdown of fat deposits. Once broken apart the tube sucks the fat away.

The Places You Can Get Liposuction

The Places You Can Get Liposuction

Although a public perception of liposuction is often inaccurate, it can be an extremely effective treatment for removing stubborn pockets of fat left behind when diet and a fitness routine are being followed. These fat pockets stick around for a variety of genetic and other reasons, but they can spoil the proportion that you’ve worked so hard to earn.

“Flabby” Arms

Arm liposuction addresses hanging or bulging bits of fat that may cling to the upper arms. stomach liposuctionThe procedure may be accompanied by a second treatment to remove excess and sagging skin and tissue, tightening and toning the upper arms and improving the overall profile.

Facial Liposuction

One of most common areas for trouble spots for patients who have recently lost a great deal of weight is the face and neck. Chin liposuction can help reduce the look of a “double” chin and provide a smoother, more pleasing profile, while neck liposuction can smooth and tighten the skin over the neck for a more youthful appearance.

Stomach and Thighs

Whether stubborn pockets of fat are staying around after a drastic weight loss, or you’ve gone through a pregnancy, the stomach and thighs are often known as “problem” areas for weight loss. A baby pouch or fatty pockets may persist even with a targeted fitness and exercise routine. Stomach liposuction can reduce or remove the appearance of a “pouch” following child birth. Depending on your goals and overall body size and shape, your doctor may recommend an abdominoplasty instead. The thighs are another area where fat tends to accumulate. Thigh liposuction can help smooth and reduce bulges, creating a smoother, more pleasing profile that is in better proportion with your overall look and size. What is Liposuction?

Liposuction is a fat removal plastic surgery procedure. Liposuction is best used to target stubborn fat deposits all over the body including love handles, face and neck, legs, buttocks, arms, and more. The procedure slims body contours and improves proportions.

How Liposuction Is Performed

Fat is sucked out of the body through small incisions using a suction tube. Before suction, Dr. Rast inserts a cannula into the fat and using a back-and-forth motion loosens and dislodges the fat. Watch the following video for a brief overview of how the surgery is performed from plasticsurgery.org.

Are You A Good Candidate?

Liposuction is not a treatment for obesity, cellulite, or loose skin, and that is very important to keep in mind if you’re considering this surgery. The following types of patients are considered “good candidates”:

  • Nonsmokers
  • Close To Goal Weight
  • Relatively Healthy Overall
  • Skin Has Some Elasticity
  • Good Muscle Tone
